Dr. Raya Morag

Raya Morag is an Associate Professor of Cinema Studies in the Department of Communication & Journalism at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. Her research and publications deal with the New German Cinema; Vietnam War movies; post-traumatic cinema; trauma and ethics; perpetrator trauma; documentary cinema; and corporeal-feminist film critique. Her current research focuses on Israeli and Palestinian post-traumatic cinema on the second Intifada. She is an Artistic Director of the Documentary Film Section, the Rabinovich Fund for the Arts, Tel-Aviv. Since 2008 Morag has been writing a permanent cinema column in the prestigious Haaretz newspaper. Her work has appeared in such journals as Cinema Journal, Camera Obscura, The Communication Review, Journal of Film & Video, International Journal of Communication, and Framework. Morag is the author of Defeated Masculinity: Post-Traumatic Cinema in the Aftermath of War (2009), and The Defeated Male. Cinema, Trauma, War (2011). Her book Waltzing with Bashir: Perpetrator Trauma and Cinema is forthcoming (London and New York: I.B. Tauris).
